The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials returns this year better than ever, with a packed program of equestrian and countryside activities.
Once more, 80 of the world’s leading horse and rider combinations will descend on Burghley Park to compete for the £100,000 first prize, having tested their equestrian skills and courage to the limit.
And you could be there. We have teamed up with the organizers to offer one lucky reader the chance to win a pair of season tickets giving entry to all four days of the event, along with a car pass and catering vouchers courtesy of Freemans Event Partners, making this prize worth a huge £250.
The horse trials, which are expected to attract over 170,000 visitors, starts with two days of dressage in the main arena on Thursday and Friday, September 1 and 2.
Saturday offers the nail biting excitement of cross country, when competitors test their mettle around Burghley’s famously challenging course, designed for the first time this year by the USA’s Derek di Grazia. The competition comes to a climax with show jumping on Sunday (September 4) to determine who will carry home the Land Rover Perpetual Challenge Trophy.
This year a fantastic program of main arena displays looks like being the best yet. On Thursday, legendary eventing and horse racing coach, Yogi Breisner will conduct a very unique masterclass, Educating the Racehorse, with Tokyo Olympics eventing gold medalist Laura Collett and champion Flat jockey Oisin Murphy. Another gold medalist, dressage rider and crowd favorite Carl Hester is hosting a dressage masterclass on Friday, while the popular Shetland Grand National features in the main arena on Saturday morning.
Burghley’s renowned pop up shopping village will once again host around 600 carefully selected trade stands, comprising everything from diamonds and vintage champagne, to bits, boots and bridles. International brands such as Pol Roger, Boodles, and Holland Cooper sit alongside local artisan producers and craftsmen. New for 2022 is the Friends of Joules pavilion, housing a range of contemporary, country lifestyle and entrepreneurial British businesses.
Finally, a huge favorite is the Land Rover Experience – which will take those wishing to experience horsepower of a different kind – splashing through the Burghley Lake. Available throughout the event, visitors will have the thrill of experiencing the latest Land Rover vehicles, as they perform to their limits on a dynamic ‘off road’ course.
