BATESVILLE, Ark. – Former player and assistant, Emanuel Santos has been named the men’s head soccer coach for the Lyon College Scots in announcement from Athletic Director Kevin Jenkins on Friday afternoon.
“We are pleased to have Emanuel become our new men’s head soccer coach,” Jenkins said. “He is a Lyon College alumni and brings a familiarity to the team. We wish him continued success in his coaching career here.”
Santos played at Jacksonville College in Jacksonville, Texas and was team captain his sophomore season. Santos earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Physical Education and made an immediate transition to the coaching staff as one of the assistant coaches for the men’s soccer team at Lyon College. Being involved with soccer since his early life, Santos had a goal to be a professional player, and / or become a head coach.
“After graduating from high school, and attending a coaching college for 3 years, I had the chance to come to the United States and still pursue my dreams, and I took it,” Santos said. “Now, I look forward to the next opportunity in my coaching career, allowing me to share all the knowledge I have gathered through my path, positively influencing the future of young student athletes. The men’s soccer program at Lyon has worked its way up in the last few years to become a top 20 program in the nation.”
Santos is from Belo Horizonte, Brazil and lives in Batesville with his wife Kelcey.
“Ever since I started playing soccer, I have always been interested in coaching,” Santos said. “During my youth career in Brazil, I was lucky to be coached by several top level coaches that influenced me to decide that it was what I wanted for my life once my playing career was over. I would like to thank the institution for trusting me, and the previous coaching staff for the opportunity to develop myself as a coach in the past couple of years. Lyon is surrounded by such a great community that has been deeply supporting our program. It’s an honor and a dream that comes through, and I am looking forward to leading our Men’s soccer team through the successful path that it has been in the past few seasons”.
