A local football club is set to welcome football legend Kevin Keegan OBE for an evening just a few weeks ahead of the World Cup.
AFC Oldham, based on Bellfield Avenue, is hosting An Evening with Kevin Keegan along with former footballer and comedian John Stiles, which will include entertainment and a three-course meal.
The evening will take place on Saturday, October 15, just five weeks before the 2022 World Cup will begin in Qatar, with Keegan set to talk about his playing and managing career and answer questions.
Nicknamed King Kev, his playing career saw him win a European Cup and three First Division titles with Liverpool, before moving to Hamburg where he was twice named winner of the Ballon d’Or, or world player of the year.
He also went on to manage the English national team, as well as spells at Newcastle United and Manchester City.
The 71-year-old will be joined by Stiles, son of former Manchester United and England player Nobby Stiles, who is now a comedian.
The event will look to raise funds for the club, the community work it does and its two mental health initiatives.
Guests will attend the event at the Best Western Hotel Smokies Park in Bardsley, with tickets selling for £45.
Tickets can be bought by contacting AFC Oldham’s club development officer, Andy Rowlandson, on 07876 141683.
