Men’s Tennis Continues Fall Season in Michigan

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Four members of the Navy men’s tennis team will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., this weekend to take part in the Vredevelt Invitational hosted by Western Michigan. The event runs Saturday and Sunday at the school’s Sorensen Courts.

In addition to players from Navy and Western Michigan, the 34-player field also consists of entrants from Butler, Chicago State, Cleveland State and DePaul.

There will be one round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles on Saturday, with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles taking place on Sunday.

The Mids making the trip are Cy McLeod (So., Augusta, Ga.), Nicholas Nguyen (Jr., McLean, Va.), Christian Pumpelly (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) and Gavin Segraves (Sr., Charlottesville, Va.).

McLeod and Pumpelly competed in last week’s Joe Hunt Invitational in Annapolis. Pumpelly put together a 3-1 record in singles and teamed with Nathan Nguyen (Fr., McLean, Va.) for a 1-3 record in doubles. McLeod, meanwhile, split his four singles matches and paired with Eric Liu (Jr., Canton, Mich.) in doubles. The team lost each of its four matches.

Nicholas Nguyen and Segraves will make their respective 2022 fall debuts this weekend.
