McCallum Praises B Team For Cowdenbeath Win

DAVID MCCALLUM praised his Rangers B Team after the young Gers secured a 3-2 win against Cowdenbeath at Dumbarton in the Lowland League.

The B Team boss believes the Light Blues showed character to come from behind and secure another three important points in the league campaign.

Speaking exclusively to RangersTV after their win, he said: “When I spoke to the players after the game, there were a lot of emotions going through my head in terms of evaluating the game and the performance itself.

“Clearly the character to come from 2-0 down, we have to commend the players as it’s not always easy to do that.

“It wasn’t a great start to the second half; we were a little bit sloppy which was obviously against the message that we spoke about at half time. They [Cowdenbeath] score from the corner and suddenly your 2-0 down, after that there was a lot of character from the players, but we have to find a way that we don’t put ourselves in that position.”

McCallum highlighted the quality of goals this afternoon with Connor Young netting the match winner in the final minutes of the game.

“We found ourselves on the back foot, Charlie [McCann] popped up with two good goals followed by a wonder strike from Connor Young – that’s a big part of his game, that one was an excellent strike and worthy of winning the game.

“That strike that he’s got is something that we want to utilize at key moments, I’m delighted for him and I’m sure he can take a lot of confidence from that.”

McCallum added that the squad needs to maintain a winning mentality when they face challenges on the pitch this season like the ones presented this afternoon.

He continued: “They’re going to have to have it, it’s not going to be plain sailing – you’re going to have difficult moments along the way, we got that in the early part of the second half today.

“There are going to be different bits in the game that present different challenges, today it is important for the players to recognize what they did well, but it also comes with a warning. I’m really pleased that the squad had that character and had the quality in the final third to get us back into the lead.”
