Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will not look to sign a new midfielder in the summer transfer window despite Thiago’s injury in Saturday’s draw with Fulham.

Thiago was subbed off after 50 minutes as Liverpool were held 2-2 by the newly promoted side and appeared to be holding his hamstring at Craven Cottage.

Liverpool are currently missing Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota through injury and even Jordan Henderson had a scare in the first half, although he was able to continue.

Quizzed about the injury to Thiago, Klopp told the BBC: ‘I have no idea, it looks pretty bad. He didn’t look too happy.’

The Liverpool boss has played down his growing injury list and insists the club will not be tempted to sign a new midfielder before the transfer window closes.

‘I know what will come up now, it’s clear,’ Klopp added. We said we don’t need a midfielder because we have enough – and we actually have enough.

‘But the problem now is that we get punished for something that is not really our responsibility because things like this can happen.

‘No one could imagine that Curtis [Jones] gets the thing he gets; it is nothing serious but he is a young boy and it is a kind of stress reaction.

‘Bodies are like this. Naby [Keita] is only ill and he will definitely be back next week again.

‘[The injury to] Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain happened earlier and now with Thiago that is, of course, not good and we will see.

‘Look, a transfer must make sense now and in the long-term; we have midfielders, we still have enough midfielders.

It’s not that we lack midfielders, but it’s just that some of them are injured. This is not a good situation, I don’t like it at all, but we have to see how we react on that – but for sure we are not panicking.’

Liverpool return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace on August 15.
