Horse Racing Tips: Nap of the Day

Ben Linfoot has Friday’s tips from around the tracks with the Nap selection running at Newcastle.

SEEOLA – 5.15 Newcastle (NAP)

Just four meetings in the UK on Friday with good racing at Haydock and Newmarket, but the day’s best bet comes at Newcastle in the Cazoo Fillies’ Handicap over 1m4f and a bit at 5.15.

The red-hot Roger Varian runs HELLO on handicap debut, the daughter of Sea The Stars having pulled her chance away at Goodwood on her last couple of starts.

This is much easier, though, and she ran well beaten five-and-a-half lengths by Misty Dancer, when giving her 5lb, at Goodwood two starts ago, that rival having since won at Ayr off a mark of 80 (now rated 85).

Seeola is rated a lowly 69 here, Sea The Stars progeny have a terrific 27% strike-rate on the Newcastle Tapeta and a first-time hood is applied in a bid to help her settle.

RAVEN’S UP – 1.30 Haydock

I wouldn’t be keen on taking relatively short prices on Rogue Spirit or Al Dasim in the Old Bootleians Nursery at Haydock, while Queen Of Uplands scraped home in an easier race at Lingfield and looks up against it up 4lb.

Preference is for RAVEN’S UP for Marco Botti, as she has improved significantly with each run and took care of a couple of previous winners at Ripon last time where she wasn’t shown the whip.

That suggests there is plenty more to come from her and she can strike under Benoit De La Sayette off an opening mark of 79.

COMMISSIONING – 3.00 Newmarket

John & Thady Gosden’s Kingman filly COMMISSIONING looks an exciting prospect on show in the Group 2 Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.

She ran a little green on debut at Newmarket but still scooted clear by an emphatic three lengths, displaying plenty of pace for a filly that is bred to thrive going up in trip next year.

Seven furlongs looks the perfect trip for her at this stage and it’s unlikely that she’ll have to improve too much to win this, with Debutante runner-up Olivia Maralda setting the standard.

HOFLOWER – 3.40 Worcester

It could be worth taking a chance on Paul Nicholls’ only runner of the day, Huflower, in the Fixed Brush Hurdle Series Final for novices at Worcester.

He’s up against it based on his run at this track over two miles 11 days ago, but that was his first run after wind surgery, his first for 175 days and he could improve plenty here.

He’ll have to, but he’ll likely be a big price for a trainer who has a brilliant 30% strike-rate at the track and the extra half mile could be one of the factors that triggers improvement.

Outpaced over two miles, he’s related to 2m5f and 3m chase winners so stamina is expected to be a strong suit for the lightly-raced five-year-old.
