Gaylord hands Petoskey soccer first loss, ends shutout streak

GAYLORD – The last time the Petoskey girls ‘soccer team saw rival Gaylord they were exiting the Blue Devils’ field with a season ending loss.

On Tuesday, the Northmen had their shot at redemption in Gaylord once again, though the final result came as the same as the last in the win-loss column.

Heading in unbeaten on the season, that changed for Petoskey with a 2-1 loss to host Gaylord.

“We weren’t nearly as clean in possession as we were on Thursday against TC Central and that’s a credit to Gaylord’s competitive spirit,” Petoskey coach Zach Jonker said.

Not only did it come as the first loss of the season for Petoskey, who moved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big North Conference, it was also the first time they’ve let in a goal since the opener, having compiled five straight shutouts heading in.
