Kroon’s season came to an end with a gut-wrenching leg injury against Toms River North and it will be hard to replace the junior based on what he did in his all-too-short 2022 season.

First, in a 5-1 win over Brick, Kroon scored two goals and assisted two others. Then, before suffering the injury at Toms River North, Kroon scored the first Central goal in a 3-2 loss to the Mariners. Once Kroon went down, the Golden Eagles could not overcome the loss or a top scorer and teammate.

Central rallied for a win over Pinelands on Monday night with Kroon in attendance for inspiration four days after having surgery on his leg. That will be his role the rest of the way, as Central tries to earn back-to-back Shore Conference Tournament appearances while also returning to the NJSIAA Tournament after narrowly missing out in 2021.

The Central Regional community rallied around Kroon this week by delivering him nearly half of the votes cast in the first Player of the Week contest of 2022. Officially, he collected 42 percent of the vote, which was well ahead of runner up Jayson Nardone of Brick (14.65 percent). As the Player of the Week winner, Kroon will receive a $25 gift card to Surf Taco.
