Asolo Rep starts looking for new leadership | Arts and Entertainment

The Asolo Repertory Theater is headed for a change of guardian.

Theater company announced on Monday that their long-term leadership team – Artistic Director Michael Donald Edward and Director of Administration, Linda DiGabriele – will resign as their contracts expire in June 2023.

Both Edwards and Gabriel were expanded their opportunities to renew their contracts, but both felt it would be a good time to retire and pass the leadership ladder.

The company’s board of directors is convening a search committee and will begin a national survey of applicants for two positions in the coming months.

Prior to joining Asolo Rep, Edward was hired as the art director of the Syracuse Stage and also had the role of art director of Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Edwards won the Garland Award and Drama Logue Award for his rich and unique career as a theater director before contributing to Asolo Rep.

Edwards states: “Since 2006, I have had the pleasure of working with Linda as my partner. “Looking back on the amazing work we have done as well as the obstacles we have overcome, the challenges we have faced and the opportunities we have taken, we knew it was the right time to go out.

“We made an appointment to travel together. Thank you so much for the opportunity given to me by our board, staff and community and the trust placed in me to lead the artistic vision of this nationally recognized organization. Now is the time for the new voice to take the lead and continue with the amazing, fun and necessary work of the Asolo Repertory Theater.

By the time he retires, DiGabriele will have been working for Asolo Rep for half a century. He has previously served as a stage manager and director of tourism operations, and has assisted the organization as its executive director for more than three decades.

“Asolo Rep has been a part of my life since I was in charge of and managing our national tourism companies,” Gabriel said in a statement. “When I took on the role of executive director in 1989, I never imagined I would have the opportunity to accomplish so many wonderful projects and collaborations. Working with Michael over the past two decades it was a strange thing.

“With our dedicated team and dedicated board, we have improved Asolo Rep’s position as one of the leading American cinemas in our community and district. Now is the time to it puts the care of the next generation of leaders. It has been a very exciting journey.
