Area soccer teams advance to Upper State Finals

High school state champions will be crowned all through the month of May, and on Saturday, a number of Upstate girls soccer teams clinched a berth in the state Final Four.In 5A, JL Mann and Wade Hampton played each other to a scoreless tie through regulation and two periods of extra time – before the Patriots defeated the General 4-3 in penalties to advance to the Upper State Final. They’ll host TL Hanna Tuesday night after the Yellow Jackets triumphed over Clover 2-1 in regulation.In 4A, Eastside beat Catawba Ridge 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to advance to the Upper State Championship game. They’ll travel to Indian Land on Tuesday night.In 3A, it’ll be Daniel at Powdersville Tuesday for a spot in the state title game after the Patriots defeated Woodruff 2-0 and the Lions took down West-Oak 2-0. And in 2A, Christ Church advanced to the state semifinals with a 6-1 win over Greer Middle College, as did Southside Christian with a 2-0 win over Gray Collegiate, while St. Joseph’s advanced with a win over Wade Hampton (Hampton, SC).
