‘Alumni Battle’ soccer event to benefit diabetes foundation | News, Sports, Jobs

The Chestnut Ridge soccer teams and its boosters are holding the second annual Alumni Battle for Diabetes Tournament on Saturday, July 30th.

The tournament will be held at Crossroads Bible Church, located at 5564 US-220 BUS, Bedford and will include men’s and women’s alumni teams from area high schools.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) which works to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.

The cost per player is $ 25.

Last year’s event, which was planned in just under six weeks, featured five men’s and five women’s teams from Bedford County schools, was well attended by players and spectators and received positive feedback.

With more time to prepare this year, the tournament is expanding and will include the first 16 men’s and first 16 women’s teams that submit their rosters.

Any teams that submit after the max number is reached will be put on a waiting list in case a team has to withdrawal.

All teams must consist of players that have graduated from that particular school.

Eligibility to play in the tournament starts with 2022 graduates and goes as far back as any alum that wants to play.

Matches will be 11v11 and all teams will be guaranteed three matches.

A team can be assembled by a few players getting a team together and submitting a roster, or by an individual sending an email stating that they are interested in playing.

Submitted rosters need to include players first and last name, t-shirt size and graduation year.

In addition to a full day filled with soccer matches, there will be a 50/50 raffle, basket raffle and food trucks.

As of now, Belly Busters Food Truck and Snowball Dreams are two trucks scheduled to be on site.

Any business or individual wishing to donate monetarily or with a basket for the raffle, please send an email.
